During the period of the dictatorship of the ex-president Trujillo Molina in the Dominican Republic many people disagreed with his government because he abused the people’s rights. He thought that the Dominican Republic was like his house and everyone needed to do what he wanted. That situation made the Mirabal sisters, Patria, Minerva and Maria Teresa want to change the mentality of the Dominican people. They wanted to defend their country through a silent rebellion against Trujillo.
The silent rebellion was called Revolutionary Movement 14 of June. With this movement they created newspapers, clandestine meetings and a strategy against tyranny, in the second half of 1959.
They were special because they created a movement to help people to save lives because Trujillo had a special characteristic to kill people that represented a problem to his tyranny. In addition, the Mirabal sisters, with their husbands, fought against Trujillo. Also, they created great ideas like organizations against tyranny, and connection with revolutionaries of the time like Pericles Franco. But Trujillo knew what they planed and he sent his people to kill them. For that reason when the Mirabal sisters died they became heroes. After they died the people understood that they were heroes.
Also I consider them to be my heroes because I think they inspire me to fight for my rights and defend my ideas like they taught us.
