“By blood, I am Albanian. By citizenship, I am Indian. By faith, I am a catholic nun. As to my calling, I belong to the world. As to my heart, I belong entirely to the Heart of Jesus,” said Mother Teresa of Calcutta. That exceptional woman, born in 1910, Albania, decided to dedicate her life to the poorest of the poor knowing she was risking her life, but the call of God was much stronger.
She didn’t have the wish of helping the sick of Calcutta since she was born, it began during the train ride from Calcutta to Darjeeling when she received the “inspiration”. That day, Jesus took hold of her heart. Then Mother Teresa established a religious community “Missionaries of Charity” to assist the poor. Then she went for the 1st time to the slums to visit families and clean the sores of children. After some months she was joined by her students to help the poor.
By the early 1960’s, Mother Teresa sent her sisters to other parts of India. By the 1980’s she opened houses in almost all of the countries, including Cuba, Albania, and the Soviet Union. Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity Brothers and Missionaries of Charity Fathers.
All her hard work, all her courage, the sacrifice, the love for the poor, the wish to help and her noble heart made Mother Teresa one of the important God’s heroine in time. Mother Teresa has successfully ended her project, saving and helping millions of children in the World. Her foundation had 4000 members and 610 foundations. But all her work was awarded with The Noble Prize of Peace in 1979.
Even though her life ended in 1997, she left the world leaving the most pure example of God and how to be a great person, going through the most difficult adventures of love, faith and hope. Her spirit will always be between the believers of God, as an example.
She was blessed after leaving the world by Pope John Paul II turning her a Saint. After all she had done I don’t doubt she deserved it. I don’t know if the World would ever have such person as Mother Teresa again, but what the world will have is someone longing to be a perfect loving and sympathetic person like her. She wasn’t a pretty, tall woman but I don’t doubt she was a person with the kindest heart the world ever knew.
