Prophet Muhammad

by Amber H. from Cupertino High School

There are many different people that are considered heroes today in the world. Someone might make a new cure for a disease, or a person might save many different lives, from a kitten in a tree, to a little child in a burning building. Whoever it may be, everyone has his or her own way of looking at each and everyone. Lots of people these days are heroes in my eyes, but the person whom I consider the biggest hero of all mankind, is our religion's beloved Prophet Muhammad. He had all the qualities of a hero. He was smart, kind, gentle, trustworthy, truthful, brave, and the list could go on forever. Basically, he was a man that never really did make any big mistakes.

He was just a really good person. What makes him seem even more of a hero, is that he was a human that could act in such a way that even the people who were against him for what he believed in, could trust him with their belongings and family secrets. He was the last prophet sent to the world in Islam. He was given the message that Moses, Jesus, and all the prophets before him were given; he was just sent to complete the message. He was considered a very honorable man, to both non-Muslims, and Muslim people, even after he became a prophet. He made the city of Makkah, which used to worship multiple gods and make great sins, believe in one God. He accomplished what many could not, and gained a lot of strength. Unlike other religions that got strength through kings and emperors, Muhammad only had God to help him do his work. Today, everyone who is Muslim follows in his footsteps, and does what he did, all for the religion of Islam. In respect towards him, we are not allowed to show any pictures of him. Although we have the description of how he looks, from the color of his hair, to how tall he was, we do not draw pictures of him. This is done so that we know about his character, faith, and how he acts and does everything, rather than just judging him by his looks. Nowhere ever in history, has anyone ever been described so much in detail, from how he eats, to how he walks, and everything else you can do in life. All the companions of the Prophet loved him so much, that when the Prophet would wash up for prayer, they would catch every drop of water, and then use it. They were just so in love with the Prophet, that they would die for him any day.

The Prophet Muhammad was known for his kindness toward everyone. Even when they were not Muslim, and they hated him, he never spoke one word of hatred towards them. One time when the Prophet was living in Makkah, he lived next to this lady who hated him because of the message he gave to everyone. She would always throw garbage in front of his door, so that his whole house would stink. Also, when she found out that he was going on a certain pathway, she would place thorns and sharp objects on the road, so they would hurt him as he walked down the path. The Prophet would never say anything, he would just remove the garbage, or the thorns, and continue to where he was going. Whenever he would see this lady, he would smile pleasantly and ask about her and how she was doing. Then, one day, as the Prophet was leaving his house, he came out and saw that there was no garbage in front of his house. He started to wonder about the lady. Then, later that day, he found out that the lady that used to throw garbage in front of his house had fallen terribly sick. That instant, he left what he was doing, and went straight to her house to see if she was doing alright. When he got there, he stayed by her, and prayed to God that she would get better. The lady was so shocked, that she then saw that he was actually a great man, and that if he acted this way, then his message was true. That moment, she became a Muslim. Another story is that the Prophet went to the town of Taif to preach about Islam, and the people would just make fun of him. Then they chased him out of the city, pelting stones at him. By the time he reached the end of the city, his shoes were overflowing with blood. Then an angel descended down from the heavens, and asked Muhammad if the angels should destroy the city. The Prophet begged them not to do so. This shows that no matter how badly he was treated or insulted, he never wanted to hurt anyone.

The best thing about the prophet Muhammad is that he did not just win people into the religion of Islam by war or preaching. He won them through his heart, and the actions he did. There is a famous story of the time an old man was carrying a heavy load, and the Prophet went up to him and offered him help. The man thanked him, and while they were walking, since Muhammad was being nice to him, the old man decided to warn Muhammad. He told him that there was a man by the name of Muhammad that was spreading false statements, and causing friends and families to split up because he said to believe in one God. The man kept on telling him to keep away from Muhammad, because he would just give him trouble. Then when the man reached where we was heading, he stopped and then turned to Muhammad and asked him his name. When Muhammad told the old man his name, the man looked at him with shame in his eyes, and then accepted Islam, and became a Muslim on the spot. He could not believe that the whole time he was speaking badly about the Prophet Muhammad, that the Prophet himself was right in front of him, just listening quietly the whole time. It amazes a lot of people how the Prophet was so humble and kind, and not quick to judge people right away. Even when they did not know the whole truth, he continued to be very patient.

The Prophet inspired a lot of people. Many of the people who were inspired by him were not Muslim. He did great things in life, things that make him the ideal person to look up to, and to consider a hero. He is not only my hero, but is in the hearts of every Muslim in the world. He was a very caring person. He wept when something happened to his believers, and he rejoiced when they had accomplished good deeds. He was a man of many talents and good characteristics, a man with one big heart.
