Rodney Mullen Darksliding ((http://z.about.com/d/skateboard/1/8/X/B/Rodney-Mullen-2.jpg)) |
My hero is Rodney Mullen. He is my favorite skater. He invented the kickflip, heelflip, 360 flip, and the impossible. Rodney’s father disagreed with the idea of skateboarding but on New Year's Eve of 1976 he changed his mind and bought Rodney his first Bonsai board with ACS trucks. If Rodney was caught without pads or got injured he would have to give up. His father saw how good he was and had no worries. Walker first sponsored Rodney in 1979. He took third in the first contest he participated in.
Later World Industries sponsored him. He left them to go to Plan B. Plan B was a super team with high profile skaters. They asked Rodney to switch from freestyle to street skating. After the founder of Plan B died, Rodney started the A-Team. Later, Rodney joined Enjoi created by Marc Johnson. Mullen left Enjoi and went to Almost boards. Rodney kept street skateboarding and invented the Underflip and the Darkslide.
