"Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them", Shakespeare wrote this in "The Twelfth Night". Mandela perfect interpretation of these three characters. Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (born 1918) was a South African resistance leader who, after years of imprisonment for opposing apartheid, emerged to become the first president of a black-majority-ruled South Africa and a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. (Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela).  He was imprisoned twenty-eight years for battling South African apartheid. Even then, he still insisted on struggle and remained a role model for other prisoners. He was more than just a moral and political leader of our time; he was an contributing and insistent activist worthy of the title of hero.

Mandela put his whole life into the struggle for the people of South Africa. Therefore, he contributed all. In the article "Nelson Mandela", the author also stated this by, "Full name, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela; born in 1918 in Umtata, Transkei, South Africa; son of Henry (a Tembu tribal chief) Mandela "(Nelson Mandela). Mandela's father is a Tembu tribal chief.  He is from the royal family. But he was the first president of the Republic of South Africa. It is different with his family's concept, but he still did. This proved his selflessness. All the things he did were for the people. Originally, he can enjoy the wealth and inherited his father's chief's position. But he abandoned this. However, Mandela's family life was not good. He divorced twice. In the article "Nelson Mandela, South Africa's Liberator and Leader, Dies at 95" from New York Time, the author Bill Keller wrote: "In his five years as president, Mr. Mandela, though still a sainted figure abroad, lost some luster at home as he strained to hold together a divided populace and to turn a fractious liberation movement into a credible government"(Nelson Mandela, South Africa's Liberator and Leader, Dies at 95). He is therefore to committed in this country, but he ignored his family. Maybe he was not a good husband or a good father, but he was a good president for people. When you get something, you will certainly lose something. Mandela got the support of the people. He devoted all his time and effort. But he lost time with his family. The real hero is the sacrifice for others.

Mandela's other important quality was to insist. It is easy to say insist, this word, but it is hard to do that. But Mandela did. In the article " Nelson Mandela", the author stated this by, "Nelson Mandela has spent a lifetime fighting for the rights of black South Africans, enduring trial and incarceration for his principles. A political prisoner in his native South Africa for more than 25 years, the eloquent and statesman-like Mandela became the human embodiment of the struggle against government-mandated discrimination" (Nelson Mandela).  Mandela spent a whole lifetime to fight for the rights of black South Africans. He was kept in prison for 27 years, but he never gave up. In prison he suffered from beatings, and he put all the pain transformed to power to keep fighting. Some people keep learning until death. Mandela has been working until death. In the article "Nelson Mandela", the author wrote:" After leaving office, Nelson Mandela remained a devoted champion for peace and social justice in his own country and around the world. He established a number of organizations, including the influential Nelson Mandela Foundation and The Elders, an independent group of public figures committed to addressing global problems and easing human suffering" (Nelson Mandela). Although he had retired, he was still concerned about world peace, he also continued to be active throughout the world. For Mandela is the greatest pain is retired, because he did not want to do nothing. He wanted to serve the people. He was like a soldier, to fight to the last minute. Mandela insisted on his career and ideals. He was like a candle that has been burning. This process may be very painful, but he always insisted on illuminating people, not to let people get lost, until the last moment.

Mandela is a hero. He insisted his ideals and dedicated his life. He once said humbly that "I was not a messiah, but an ordinary man who had become a leader because of extraordinary circumstances" ( Nelson Mandela) . He doesn't claim to be a savior. But people think Mandela is a savior. He also wasn't infatuated  with power. He is just a beacon in the darkness, lighting the way that people move on. His life's most valuable experience that should be in prison for 27 years. In the article   "Nelson Mandela," the author writing by, "These restrictions and conditions notwithstanding, while in confinement Mandela earned a bachelor of law degree from the University of London and served as a mentor to his fellow prisoners, encouraging them to seek better treatment through non violent resistance"(Nelson Mandela). In prison, he did not give up. He went on to study law, inmates are encouraged to disseminate non-violent resistance.

In the 27-year prison career,  he lost youth. But he did not lose confidence and motivation. He always had a positive heart. He has been learning, it is to continue to struggle after his release.  Mandela's life experience encouraged me not to flinch. He teaches me to only continue to move forward to be successful. We would like to be thankful to have such a great man, though he has died, but we will always remember him.
