Nelson Mandela joined in helping transition South Africa to a non-racial democracy ("Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela"). Nelson Mandela was a lifelong activist that eventually rose to become the first black president of South Africa ("Costello, Andrew"). Mandela was sent to Robben Island, a prison near Cape Town("Nelson Mandela" Contemporary vol. 14). He dealt with hard labor at Robben Island and wasn't allowed to contact with anyone from outside world. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years until he was hospitalized because he went against the South African Government ("Nelson Mandela" Contemporary vol. 14). Nelson Mandela's important events took place during 1940-2010.
Nelson Mandela is considered a hero because of his perseverance. "Nelson Mandela has spent a lifetime fighting for the rights of black South Africans, enduring trial and incarceration for his principles. A political prisoner in his native South Africa for more than 25 years" ("Nelson Mandela" Contemporary vol. 14). Nelson Mandela spent all his life fighting for black rights and even after he faced punishment he went back and started protests and never gave up. Nelson Mandela was committed to stopping the inequality in South Africa no matter what the consequences were. "Mandela was incarcerated until he was hospitalized in 1988, spending eighteen years of his sentence at Robben Island Prison"("Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela"). When Nelson Mandela went against the South African Government he got arrested and sentenced to 18 years in Robben Island and allowed no contact with the outside world. After this severe punishment Nelson Mandela endured he still went back to the top and started to make more plans on how to help these black South African people. No matter what punishment the South African Government put on Mandela he would go back to his people and support them as soon as possible.

Nelson Mandela was considered a hero because of the actions he took. "Mandela was 24 when he joined the ANC, a group that sought to establish political rights for blacks in South Africa" ("Nelson Mandela" Contemporary vol. 14). When Mandela was still young he joined a group called ANC that established social and political rights in South Africa and helped Africans ("Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela"). This group risked being arrested and sentenced but the people in that group just wanted to keep on going forward and helping black South Africans. "Mandela cooperated in transitioning South Africa to a non- racial democracy, and were awarded the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts" ("Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela"). Nelson Mandela worked with another man to take part in making the South African Government a non-racial democracy. This took courage to stand against the South African government and decide to change it, and Nelson Mandela risked his life doing that. Nelson Mandela was
As Nelson Mandela once said: "When a man is denied the right to live the life he believes in, he has no choice but to become an outlaw." Nelson Mandela was an inspiration to many people. Since the African Government didn't really help black South Africans or give them a choice in anything Nelson Mandela had to take matters into his own hands and go against the government knowing he will suffer the consequences but he cared about his people more then his life. Nelson Mandela was a brave person that had one focus which was to help black south Africans and feared nothing to get to that goal."A life-long anti apartheid activist in South Africa who eventually rose to become the first democratically elected, and first black, president of South Africa, Nelson Rolihlahla"("Costello, Andrew"). Nelson Mandela faced many obstacles during his journey but passed each every single obstacle thrown at him resulting him and his people living happily. Nelson Mandela ended up being the president of his people. Nelson Mandela inspires me because even after he got imprisoned for 25 years he never gave up on his people. He did what he thought was right and I want to be able to think like that. Nelson Mandela is truly a courageous leader and deserves all the respect.
