I chose Nelson Mandela because he stood up for black people and never gave up! This book is a biography written by John Carlin and is based on his interviews with Mandela after he became the president of South Africa. The interview began on June 7, 1994. Knowing Mandela has 144 pages. This book covers Nelson Mandela's life a little bit before Nelson Mandela went to jail. This book was written in 2013. John Carlin was born to a Scottish father and a Spanish mother. He lived for his first 3 years in North London, then moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina, then moved back to England. John Carlin went to College at St. George's College. John Carlin is divorced and has one child.

Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918, in Mvezo, South Africa, where he lived until 1934. Nelson Mandela had nine siblings. Three of their names are Nomabandla Mandela, Baliwi Mandela and Mhlalwa Mandela. Nelson Mandela's parents are Noqaphi Nosekeni and Gadla Henry Mphakanyiswa. Nelson Mandela got educated at Fort Hare, where the students were taught stuff like math, science, S.S. and L.A. When Nelson Mandela was young, he wanted to be a lawyer. When he was younger he had a foreshadowing, because his real name is Rolihlahla and in English that means "troublemaker," and he went to jail. One of the people who inspires Nelson Mandela is Gandhi. "I dream of an Africa which is in peace with itself." That was Nelson Mandela's dream.

Nelson Mandela had two challenges in his life. The first one is that his father was the chief of his tribe in South Africa. Number two is that he was black, and when he was little he was treated very poorly because he was black! Nelson Mandela was able to overcome one of his challenge's by sticking up for black people in South Africa because he spoke out to the government. The main event that contribute to Nelson Mandela's success the most is when he spoke out to the government! Now, here are some words that describe Nelson Mandela: Number one, brave. He is brave because he spoke out to the government. Number two, selfless, because he spoke out to the government because of them not treating black people like humans. Number three, inspirational, because he inspires a lot of people, and not just black people but white people too. Nelson Mandela had one weakness and that was his loyalty. He was loyal to the people that were fighting against apartheid in South Africa, and that ended up with him going to jail for fighting against the government. Even though this loyalty was a weakness, it also helped him become a stronger person while in jail. This strong person is the one who was brave, selfless and inspiring. Nelson Mandela got 42 awards in his life and here are two of them, he got the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 and the second one is Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2002. Nelson Mandela had a lot of sad and happy things in his life and I'm going to tell you one of them and that one is when he spoke out to the government about black people being treated like human beings and then went to jail, isn't that sad!

If i ever met Nelson Mandela and i was able to ask him three questions i would ask him were you scared when you went to jail, and did you miss your family when you went to jail and did you love your life? I would want to be Nelson Mandela's child because he spoke out about black people! The book Knowing Mandela is a really good book, i loved the book because it's all an interview. These are some things that i think Nelson Mandela's life relates to my life and here they are: he was a kid like me! I think that some people would like this book because some people might like learning about black people and how they changed the world! I am happy that i chose Nelson Mandela to do this web page about because i think he is very inspiring! I learned a lot of good things from Knowing Mandela but the one thing I think is the most interesting is that Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison and that he was released on February, 11, 1990! After reading Knowing Mandela I think Nelson Mandela is a wonderful role model! I think Nelson Mandela is a wonderful role model because he spoke out about people not treating black people like white people!

Nelson Mandela died on December 5, 2013. He was 95!
