Neil Peart is my hero because he inspires me as an artist. Neil is an accomplished writer, drummer and lyricist. He has been in the legendary rock band Rush since 1974. He was born in Port Dalhousie, Ontario, Canada September 12th, 1952. At the age of 13 he received a pair of drum sticks and a practice pad, at 14 he received his first drumset, a red-sparkle Rogers set. Since then he has become an inspiration to drummers all over the world. Rush is the biggest rock band out of Canada, they have sold millions of records worldwide with the help of Neil’s lyrics.

In August 1997 Neil lost his daughter in a single car crash on the 401, within the year his wife succumbed to cancer. After these events Neil had problems with drugs, alcohol and cigarettes. He started making long trips on his motorcycle through the USA, Mexico, Belize and Canada to try and overcome his emotions. Since then he has remarried and is living in San Diego, California, with his wife Carrie.

Neil is an acclaimed author. He has written four novels "The Masked Rider", "Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing road", "Traveling Music", and "Roadshow:Landscape with Drums". Masked Rider is an account of his bicycle tour of West Africa, Ghost Rider is his retelling of the story of his wife and child, and his motorcycle trip. Traveling Music is his life story and Roadshow is the story of an entire Rush tour.

Neil inspires me as a drummer. His use of the 7/4 time signature has inspired me to try new things on the drums. His skill makes me want to be as good as him. This is why Neil is my HERO!!
