My hero is a speaker that has inspired and motivated many people in the world. His name is Nick Vujicic. He has lived his whole life without any arms or legs and has overcome many obstacles to get where he is today. People, including me, view him as courageous, determined, hopeful, and faithful. These are typical traits a hero should have. After all of his everyday struggles, he still has to ability to encourage and inspire others through his speaking. Not only does he inspire me but he has touched many lives and truly made a difference.

Nick Vujicic was born on December 4th, 1982, in Brisbane, Australia. He was born without any limbs but he happens to have two small feet. Only one of the feet has two toes and the other doesn’t have any at all. When Nick was eight years old, he had a hard time with his disability and went through sort of a depression. Later on, he got over this depression and grew thankful to be alive. As far as education goes for him, Nick went to a school to help with his disability but then later transferred to a public school. In middle school, he started to get involved with his school’s student government. He enjoyed participating in some school activities such as school fundraisers and disability campaigns. After high school, Nick got accepted into Griffith University in Logan, Australia. He graduated with two majors in Financial Planning and Accounting.

Today, Nick works and travels around the world as a motivational/inspirational speaker. Although Nick is a strong Christian, He speaks at both Christian and non-Christian settings. He developed an organization called “Life Without Limbs” after graduating high school. “Life Without Limbs” is an organization for the physically disabled. Nick, as the President of his organization, gives speeches on disabilities and hope. Along with “Life Without Limbs”, he has a motivational video about his life and how he lives daily without arms and legs. He has already spoken to over three million people in more than twenty-four countries and five continents. He was asked to star in a short film called “Butterfly Circus”. It’s about a man without arms and legs that gets made fun of and struggles but it shows his ability and it is very touching to many people.

I never actually got to hear Nick Vujicic speak. He came to my church but I was not able to make it. I watched his video and was amazed by his words and his ability without arms or legs. It has truly changed not only the way I look at others with disabilities but the way I look at obstacles overall. Nick spoke of all the struggles he had to go through and what he had to overcome. I do not relate to my hero in a lot of ways but he has made a difference in my life. He has so much hope and is living a happy life. He knows there is a true purpose for each person’s life.

Nick Vujicic is not just my hero but he is a hero to many. One thing I think is that a very important part of being a hero is having the right attitude. I think all heroes are supposed to make a difference. Nick has both a great attitude and he has made a huge difference in people’s lives. He shows that so many things are possible with the hard work, good attitude, hope and believing in yourself.
