The People in my Neighborhood

by Doran from Boulder

Sure I look up to Captain America, Batman, Thor, Superman, Iron-man, The Green Lantern, and Hawk Eye. Though I believe that the true heroes are in the common. I see these people in the common folk as heroes because they are just average people but they still do small things of heroism. To me a hero is someone or thing that inspires us, encourages us, supports us, does what needs to be done for the sake of the community no matter the struggle or cost, a hero is anybody with a purpose. For me my heroes are the people that live in my neighborhood. These people are heroes because of the small things they do.

For me it takes the small things to be a hero, as well as the larger things. Every morning while driving to school I will see my neighbors and just the little wave of the hand makes my day. Although most people will not consider this a heroic act but the fact that every day, no matter what they went through or how bad their day is or will be, they take the time to smile and wave. Which is heroic because it shows people that no matter what it is proper to always be happy. Whenever the people wave at me it reminds me to be happy and spread the message. In September my city of Boulder flooded, affecting almost every home and family in the area. My family was unlucky and tragically got 3 feet of brown water in our bottom floor. During the flood everybody in the neighborhood had problems of their own but they still went out to help others. My neighbors were extremely heroic because they hosted my family for a week and still helped others. Every day when I see their house I remember the hospitality of the family and remember to do the same for others. These people did not save a life or do anything big but they did ensure a family's happiness and safety.

These people are not only my heroes but role models. Also I know that these people will be there for me whenever they are needed. They are a new family. They are my neighbors.
