Being a hero involves self-sacrifice and being influential. My hero was a man of many accomplishments who is often overlooked or forgotten. Although he probably was not the greatest hero of all time, he deserves an article on this website. His name was Otto von Bismarck and he was one of the most skilled diplomats of all time. His achievements include unifying the split Holy Roman Empire and creating peace among Europe during his reign as chancellor. Bismarck was a logical man and a master diplomat.

Bismarck rose from a humble beginning to chancellor of Prussia and later chancellor of Germany and the main diplomat of Europe. Bismarck was born in Saxony in a noble family. He studied law in a university to become a diplomat. When he was thirty-two years old, he was selected to represent the Prussian legislature. When he became chancellor of Prussia, he used his power to manipulatively create a powerful central country in Europe: Germany. After he created Germany, he immediately set out to create peace not only in Germany, but in Europe. His complicated system of peace gave Germany many allies and brought stability and peace to Europe.

Bismarck was a master diplomat. He believed in making firm, but logical decisions to maintain unification and peace. Because World War I occurred shortly after his retirement, his achievements are often overlooked. He was able to unify Germany and become allies with their former enemy Austria. He also brought peace to Europe by maintaining good relations between nearly all countries in Europe.

Bismarck is my hero for a variety of reasons. He was extremely intelligent and logical, and used his talents to unify others and create peace. His strong mind brought stability to a shaken Europe after the revolutions of 1848. Conflicts in Europe during Bismarck’s reign were minor, and if Bismarck’s system of peace were still intact today, there would be a lot less conflicts in the world today too.

Although Bismarck may not have been the greatest hero, he is still a great hero who is frequently overlooked. In my eyes, he is a hero for being logical and bringing peace and unity to all.
