I love to do gymnastics, and I love my family, but I never went to the Olympics to save a family member like Oksana Chusovitina! I think that Oksana is really a true hero, and her story is truly amazing. Everyone should learn from her story.

Oksana participated in the 1992 summer gymnastic World Championships in London. Oksana won the gold medal for vault. A few years later Oksana had a little boy. She found out her son had leukemia. The hospitals said that they could not provide the treatment Oksana’s son needed. So, Germany said that they could provide all the treatments he needed if Oksana would represent Germany in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Oksana agreed!

The 32-year-old Oksana won the Olympic! She won the 8 gold medals for vault! Oksana did what Germany wanted her to do. That means that her son got all the treatments that he needed! Germany kept their promise. All the treatments were done successfully. He is doing well, from what I have read. It has been almost three years since his treatments have been completed.

It has been almost three years since all of this has been done. Oksana’s son is in grade 3 and is doing just fine! I think that Oksana really is a true hero because she went back to the Olympics, just to save her son. That is what I call a hero!
