Monsignor Romero was born on August 15th, 1917, In San Miguel, El Salvador. At the age of twelve, he was baptized into the Catholic Church. Romero had six brothers and one sister. Romero entered public school, which only offered grades one through three. When he finished with public school, Romero was privately tutored by Anita Iglesias until the age of twelve.
Romero was fighting for the rights of the poor people. Monsignor Romero was a bishop who was appreciated and loved all over the world. Romero spoke out against the injustice of the El Salvador government. He was a founder of the liberation theology and felt the church had a duty to help the poor people.
He was awarded the doctorate honors cause from Lavonia University of Belgium. He was awarded the doctorate honors from Georgetown University in Washington. Monsignor Romero was an honorable man for a lot of people, his parents put him in the way of God, and he started being tutored in a catholic church and he just wanted the rights for the poor people in El Salvador. The war started in El Salvador in the 80s and 90s, Monsignor Romero was trying to help with the rights of the poor people, sending a letter to the president of The United States, telling about the injustice of the military with the poor people in El Salvador. His goodness took him to the death, because he was fighting with the government in his own country. Also he traveled some countries all over the world for justice.
On March 24th, 1980, Monsignor Romero was killed by a bullet aimed at his heart. This bad news made an impact on many people in El Salvador, something that really surprised people was that Roberto D. Abuisson, the founder of the political team called ARENA, ordered his killing. That was discovered in 1993. His legacy and his fight on behalf of the poor people and against injustice lives stronger than ever.
Now Monsignor Romero lives in the hearts of many people who are always going to keep following him. For those people Monsignor Romero is a fantastic hero. Oscar Romero is the memory of this great country El Salvador and he will always be there.
