I chose Oprah Gail Winfrey to do my project on because she has been through ups and downs but chooses to embrace life. My spectacular book is a biography written by Kitty Kelley. The book is called "Oprah a Biography" and is five hundred and forty four pages long. This book covers most of Oprah Winfrey's life up until the book had been published. The book was written in 2011 by the talented Kitty Kelley. Kitty is a great writer and also a wonderful journalist. She has written sixteen books and is now seventy two years old.
Oprah Winfrey was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, United States. She was raised by her parents in the United States of America. Oprah has two sisters one is named Patricia Lee and the other is named Patricia Lloyd. She also has a brother named Jeffery. Her mother's name is Vernita and her father's name is Vernon. After her birth they split up and she was given to her grandparents out on a farm. Oprah Winfrey attended the following schools:Tennessee State University, East Literature Magnet School and Nicolet High School. She was interested in journalism and really enjoyed performing in front of audiences. When Oprah was growing up she had gotten abused by her cousin, uncle and a family friend. Her family was in poverty and often she had to wear potato sack bags to school. Oprah's grandparents influenced her and helped her out when she was younger. She didn't have a strong idea of what she wanted to do but in college she when into journalism and became a news anchor later on. Oprah would play act with the animals in the barn and put on a show for them, this foreshadowed her later career as a talk show host.
Oprah Winfrey had to face many challenges liked being abused at age nine. She later became pregnant at the age fourteen and gave birth to a baby boy, which died weeks later in the hospital. Oprah had the ambition to stride forward and forget the horrible past. Her strong spiritual beliefs helped her to move on in life and become a better person. One of Oprah's amazing qualities is being strong, she has been through a lot but is still such a strong and inspirational women. She also is supportive, she chooses to help others out when they are in need like how she was when she was younger. Oprah is also such a compassionate lady who has persevered the rough times in life and loves people for who they are. Her main weakness is an eating disorder where her weight goes up and down constantly. This is difficult because it is sometimes hard for her to mange her weight. One fault is that she talks about her past a lot and can sometimes come across bossy when having conversations with others. A funny story about Oprah is that when she was younger she enjoyed signing and performing to her animals on her farm. This inspirational women has won many medals and awards such as a comedian honours and she got a couple of Emmy awards in the process.
Something that surprised me would have to be all her childhood stories when she got abused. Yet I was pleased about her being a strong person and persevering through. If I met Oprah the first questions I would have asked her would be "What made you keep going in life and not give up?". Next I would ask "If you didn't become a talk show host would you be in the music industry?". The last question I would ask is "How did you adjust to being poor and then rich and famous?". I would want to be Oprah's child, she would be a strong and helpful mother. The book was all right in my words, it wasn't that interesting at some points but it had a lot of great information about her life. I learned a bunch of valuable information from this book, like to always be strong and push through the rough times in life. I could apply some of her lessons to my life, like to be helpful, always be the best version of yourself and stay strong through everything. Some people might not like this book because they may find it boring because there is not a lot of action, other people who like biographies would most likely approve of this book. I am glad that I chose Oprah Gail Winfrey to do my biography on because she has made me see that even if times are rough they will eventually get better. I considered her as a role model to me because of her attitude and lovable personality.
