Oscar De La Hoya is a renowned boxer, known for his many great bouts and his superstar status around the world. He quickly became the world’s most popular boxer, after the 1994 summer Olympics in Barcelona. Not because he won the gold, but the fact that he won it as his mother's dying wish, in doing so after the final decision Oscar raised the flags of both Mexico and the U.S.A, later telling the press, “I held the American flag for my country and the Mexican flag for my heritage." From then on the world knew his intentions were good.

He was originally born February 4th, 1973 with his parents, one brother and one sister in a small three bedroom house, and money was always tight around the house, but they got through it. Oscar De La Hoya has a house in his hometown of East Los Angeles, and a house in Puerto Rico where he spends a lot of his time with his family. He often has friends over to spend a weekend at his Puerto Rican home, but when he’s not spending time with his family he is very active in the Latino community.

De La Hoya has made a difference in my life not because of his unforgiving boxing skills but the fact that he only gives. Oscar wants everybody to get theirs, before he gets his. He is one the most courteous, caring and modest athletes around. In a sense, Oscar De La Hoya is a saint to the Mexican American community.

Oscar De La Hoya may seem like a brutal fighter and someone who should not even compare to some heroes out there but you never judge a book by the cover. He has changed the life of many people around the world and he still awes the world with his generosity and careing ways. The only thing Oscar wants out of life is to leave the world a better place than when he was introduced to it.
