Paata Burchuladze

by Giorgi from Tbilisi

My Hero, Paata Burchuladze

There is one guy in my class, who lives in the orphanage because his mother can’t support him. He impatiently looks forward to the summer holidays, when his mother comes to visit him. This summer his mother didn’t manage to see his son. Who knows how he felt, how much he missed her.

Fortunately, there is a man in my city whose aim in life is to care for orphans and disabled children. He is the great musician and opera singer, Paata Burchuladze, the head of a charity organization. He appears in the most famous opera houses with the world-wide opera stars. He organizes charity concerts to raise money for poor families and orphans; the world’s great musicians take part in them. They are Paata’s friends, they do this to show their great love and respect towards Paata.

He’s a person who sows kindness and never waits for the reward. During Georgia-Russian war 2008, the whole world was moved by the tragedy of a little boy George. He saw his parents’ death with his own eyes (his mother was pregnant). He was rescued by his uncle and it was a narrow escape. And today little George is a stepson of the charity organization of “Iavnana” (“Lullaby” – in English), that was founded by Paata Burchuladze. It’s an organization that helps children like George. Besides this, every year a charity marathon takes place to provide the homeless with their own flats.

I’m a happy boy. I’ve got a large family. But there are kids around me who need their own families. I feel sorry for them, but I know that Paata Burchuladze, my hero, Is always ready to help make them smile and be happy.
