Don Pedro Albizu Campos; he was a Puerto Rican politician. He was the president of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party from 1930 until he died. Who was known as “EL MAESTRO” because of his oratorical skills? The phrase el maestro is a Spanish phrase which in English means the teacher. Don Pedro was really famous in many places like Dominican Republic, Panama, Mexico, Venezuela, Cuba, and Peru. Albizu is a hero to me and to the people of Puerto Rico. (wikipedia.org)

Don Pedro Albizu Campos was born on September 1891 in Ponce Puerto Rico. His mother’s name was Juana Campos and his father’s name was Alejandro Albizu. In 1912 Albizu was awarded a scholarship to study engineering. In 1913 he continued studying at University of Harvard. During his education he volunteered in the United States infantry for World War I. During that time too he suffered the effects of racism during time the relationship between the Puerto Ricans and the Americans changed. In 1922 he married a beautiful woman named Dr. Laura Meneses, was from Peru. (albizu.8m.com/)

In 1924 Albizu joined the nationalist party of Puerto Rico and was elected Vice President. Then he traveled many countries such as The Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela looking for solidarity for the Puerto Rican independence movement. As time went by, he was getting more powerful and better at what he wanted to do for the Puerto Rican independence movement, he actually was elected as president of the nationalist party in the early 1930. In the early 1935 four of the people that worked for the nationalist campaign were killed, Albizu was arrested because of the four people that were killed from the campaign in 1936. While in prison, he became sick, was in a hospital in New York called Columbus Hospital. (wikipedia.org)

One of Albizu’s accomplishments was to separate Puerto Rico from the United States, Albizu fought for the independence of Puerto Rico. He would never live to see that happen there are some people today who are trying. Albizu wanted independence because he wanted Puerto Rico to be independent and not be part of the United States. The second time coming out of prison in 1956 he suffered from a stroke and died. (Wikipedia.org)

How has Pedro Albizu changed the world? He changed the world by being the first man to try to make Puerto Rico an independent country. Why is he a hero to me? He is a hero to me because he went through a lot of hard tasks and risks to be what he wanted to be in life, and of how he wanted to change Puerto Rico. Some traits he had to be successful were that he was really strong and he never back down. Maybe someday I will make people happy by being strong and looking up to myself and not be scared.
