Patrick Henry

"Give me liberty or give me death" quoted by Patrick Henry when he was giving a speech about the excessive amount of taxes that the king was putting in force. Patrick Henry was the first colonel of the first Virginia regiment.  He was a hero to many people for his protesting about taxes, and fighting for civil rights. Patrick Henry was a very influential person for many people in the 1730's and helped many people.

 Patrick Henry was born June 6th, 1736. He was born in Hanover, Virginia. He had been interested in law since he was the age 6. Patrick had one sister and one brother. When Patrick married Sarah and Dorothea and they had a total of 17 children. Dorthea (one of Patrick's daughter's) died in 1793 at the age of 2.

 

    Despite the fact of his background information, two characteristics that made him a hero were his gallant actions and his determination. During this time the king was ruling the eastern and southern part of the United States and that was where his gallantry came in. When he was going against taxes against the king. The text states, "Patrick Henry was a leader in every protest against British tyranny and in every movement for colonial rights."(biography.com editors). This piece of text demonstrate that Patrick was gallant because he spoke for rights even though he could be killed or thrown in prison. Patrick was determined because even though his father couldn't afford him to send him to college he didn't give up on studying. The text says,"Although Patrick was a smart young man, his father couldn't send him to Europe for college Patrick had been educated by his father and learned law by himself"(Jarnow 11). This citation reveals that, even though his father couldn't afford to send him to college, he didn't let that stop him from studying law.

 

Patrick is known as a hero to many individuals , because he was known for fighting for civil rights,protesting against taxes, and the British tyranny. People needed a person like Patrick Henry because they needed someone to speak against the wrong and fight for the right. The everlasting change he had helped the people learn from him to speak up and do what's right even though it might lead to trouble. No one really influenced Patrick Henry, the love for law was what got him to be who he was.

     Patrick Henry also left a long term impact which was based on his characteristics. Since he was determined and gallant many people learned to speak up for what is right and not just give up easily. Patrick Henry was a heroic figure for many and had good characteristics for influence and inspiration. Even though he was poor he did not give up studying law and was determined to say what was right and stood up for colonial rights. Patrick Henry can be a great figure for many.Patrick Henry once said "If this be treason make the most of it."
