The superficial attitude is common among great singers and rock stars. All they care about is themselves, and bask in the glory of their own greatness. Yes, many people are like that, however Paul Hewson has taken on a new perspective. Showing the qualities of compassion, dedication and determination demonstrates that Paul Hewson is a true hero.

Paul Hewson or more commonly known as Bono, born on May 10th, 1960 was not only the successful lead singer of the Irish rock band, but also spent his time being a humanitarian. He did not show his love for music until his teenage years, but when he did it brought good things. Bono spent any spare time he has giving back to the community giving money to charities, raising awareness of economic problems and producing his own organizations to help people in need. All of the good in his life began with Bono’s musical passion.

Being a 16-year-old attending Mount Temple school, Paul Hewson (Bono) found his love for music. After Bono’s mother died from a brain Hemorrhage in September of 1974, he needed to find a sense in life and he found it when a bulletin board at school showed an invitation to a jam session. Hewson decided to go and there he met David "the Edge" and Dick Evans, and Adam Clayton which were later in U2. The dream to become a popular band was more than exceeded for U2 when they went out on tour in 1980 and soon earned a spot on the top English pop charts. Luckily their hard work and determination paid off in the music business. While some pop sensations decide to keep everything to themselves and go along in their selfish ways, Bono used his fame in order to give back to the community in various ways.

Having a good heart, Bono is selflessly devoted to helping people in need. He has been a hero to millions of people while showing what a giving person he is. A donation was made by Hewson of 50,000 dollars to One in Four Ireland, which is a charity that supports the sexually abused. Being devoted to improving people’s lives include meeting with leaders and many U.S. politicians to talk of debt relief. One of the most important and life changing charitable work Bono has done was working with DATA (Debt, AIDS and TRADE in Africa) to create the (RED) campaign to make an effort to eliminate AIDS in Africa, by doing this over 42 million dollars was raised for people in need in 2007. Showing compassion and being dedicated to eliminating AIDS, sexual abuse and poverty makes a difference in the world and shows what this hero can do.

Bono is a true example of the name hero and has amazing musical ability along with his good heart and need for helping people. He has determination with music which got him very far along with his on-going effort to expand the goodness in the world. Having compassion for individuals in need have shown that it can lead to a good outcome and helps people in need greatly. And finally dedication towards his music career caused U2 to have a very successful and motivating group to listeners of their music. Also dedicated to many opportunities helps cause the world to be an overall better place with fewer problems with AIDS, poverty and debt. Paul Hewson is not just another pop star who shows selfishness and no consideration towards others; instead he gives a good example to every type of person and is an inspiration to music lovers as well as other humanitarians. His outlook on life demonstrates what can be accomplished if you stick to something. Maybe if everybody showed such compassion, the world could truly improve and gain even more heroes as accomplished as Bono.
