There are many qualities that define a hero in today's world. To some people those qualities are good looks, great physique, and a flashy costume. I look for something less superficial like inspiration, faith, dedication, and humility. Phil Wickham is my hero because he possesses all of these qualities and is not afraid to show them off to the rest of the world!

Dedication is a major quality of a hero, and Phil Wickham dedicates himself to serving God and gives himself to the musical worship of our Lord Jesus Christ. Phil started his musical career in 2008 when he started as a worship leader with his youth group. He is still going today and his career has grown all because he was dedicated and worked hard at what he did! He serves the Lord with all his heart and uses the special aptitudes that God gave him and still hasn't stopped because some hater told him he was awful, stupid, and he couldn't play the guitar. God has given him the gift of dedication and determination. Through highs and lows, ups and downs, sideways even - he dedicates himself to God, his band, and his work!

Another heroic quality that Phil Wickham possesses is humility; I believe that God has blessed him with this naturally humble personality. God provides us all with humility but Phil's faith has brought him to great heights and he is still extremely humble. Unlike a lot of great music artists Phil Wickham doesn't like to hog the spotlight and is even humble when he receives attention. Phil is not perfect because he does sometimes have haughty moments when he gets caught up in the world, but his humility is constantly being renewed through God's Word. This quote was in an interview with Phil Wickham on christiantoday.com: "There is no way for me to not have a level, even in my haughtiest of moments to read through that (the book of Matthew) and remember what God did for me on the cross. That'll immediately bring me to a place of reverence and thankfulness and humility."

Phil's faith rests in the Lord no matter what comes his way and what's best is that he serves the Lord through what he loves to do. In Psalm 28:7 it says "I will give thanks to him in song," and I believe that this verse shines a light on Phil Wickham and shows him living through scripture and living by faith through the Bible and God. God helped him grow from leading worship for his youth group at thirteen to releasing five albums and going on tours!

Phil Wickham has been a huge inspiration for me through his music and through his faith. Personally I love to give praise to the Father through musical worship and his songs have brought me new life and refreshed hope many times! I admire him as a hero and as a Christian, and all these things - even his imperfections - add up to make him my hero. His faith, humility, and dedication all shine through and create the ideal hero of faith!
