My hero is Patrick Roy. I picked Roy because he shows hard work and also plays hockey which is my favorite sport. Patrick is very good at hockey and plays hockey as a goalie.
Patrick Roy was born on October 5, 1965 in Canada. He was raised in Quebec City near a suburb called Sainte-Foy. His parents' names were Michael and Barbara. His education was French; he dropped out of school to play hockey in the eleventh grade.
Patrick Roy became interested in hockey by playing street hockey when he was a kid. One of his friends got hurt and nobody else would volunteer to play goalie so he volunteered and loved it his whole life. Once Roy started his career with the Montreal Canadians, his team brought a nutrition expert to help Patrick with his eating habits. His difficulties were overcoming millions of shots to win his games and tournaments, to have to work hard every day, and go through millions of minutes in hockey to win and succeed.
Roy played for the Montreal Canadians for twelve seasons and for the Colorado Avalanche for eight seasons. He retired in 2003 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2006. His jersey was retired in Quebec. Patrick has also been donating to the Ronald McDonald House since the 1980s. Roy's accomplishments were having the most career wins in the NHL, most play-off game wins, most shutouts, and the most playoff games played. He has won the Calder Cup which is given to the rookie judged top in the league. He won the Stanley Cup which is given to the playoff champions and has also won the Conn Smyth Trophy which is for the playoffs' Most Valuable Player. His final achievement was when he won the William M. Jennings trophy for having the least amount of goals scored on in the regular season. Roy was married to Michele Piuze in 1990 but then got divorced in 2006. He has two sons who play hockey. Patrick was offered to be the head coach for the Colorado Avalanche but turned it down in 2009.
I have learned to practice hockey in the street and eat healthy to be strong and successful. I watch videos and read articles in magazines to help me get better. I am inspired to never giving up and always work hard. Roy taught me to fight through battles in life and then maybe the hard work will pay off. I chose Patrick Roy because he plays hockey and is a very good goalie, too. Even though I'm not a goalie in hockey like him, it's still very fun to be a goalie and he is a really good donator to charities.
