Just because someone is your biological parent, mother or father, it does not mean that they are your parent. A parent is somebody who takes care of you, feeds you, loves you, nurtures you, gives you a roof over your head, and most of all keeps you safe. You may not believe it but that is a hard task for most people to fulfill; some "parents" only show up when it's convenient, others don't show up at all. Children need a parental figure in their lives, people to teach them right from wrong, and to show them how to love and care. That's why my hero/ heroes are parental figures may it be mother, father, or both.
Growing up I've constantly seen children with one parent, both parents, or no parents. Kids that have no parents generally are looking for anybody to accept them and take them in. They just want the life that they've always dreamed of. They want a father to play sports, with a mother to cook with, somebody to love them. And same with children that only have one parent whichever parent they're missing they want someone to fulfill their dreams of a regular family.
This has been happening for a while now your mother or father find someone they love that is not your biological mother or father. It seems weird to you, someone new around, you don't know how to take it, some you act rationally, some you throw fits, cause CHAOS, but the longer they stay the more you love them. They begin doing they things with you that you've always wanted to such as playing baseball, tea parties, playing football, whatever you've always wanted to do you do it. They teach you what is ok to do and what is not. If you get in trouble they punish you, they act like your parent. But the thing is it takes a special type of person to step into a child's life and take them on as their own. There are not many out there that can do it. But the ones that do truly love you, they may not be your biological parent but they are there day in and day out. They teach you right from wrong, they punish you when you need to be punished and they reward you when you need to be rewarded. That is what a parent does.
A parent is someone who loves you and cares for you. Just because somebody isn't you biological parent, that does not mean that they are not your parent. Parental figures are my heroes for stepping up and being a good role model for children and young adults.
