Michael Phelps

Someone that I would call a hero is someone that you might not know but his name is Michael Phelps. He is a swimmer that has numerous world records. Michael is my hero because I've always wanted a swimmer that was going to dominate the olympics and that's just what Phelps did. He ended up winning 6 gold medals in Athens at the 2004 summer olympics. Michael Phelps is a hero because he can prove many people wrong and show them that dedication is powerful. Michael is my hero because he has inspired me to swim as much as I can and as hard as I can and I'm getting better every day that I go to practice.

Phelps is a hero to me also because he has made me think of swimming and everything that I do when I swim. For example, when I was watching the summer olympics with my family we would watch how long it took for Phelps to breathe, his time and strokes per lap. That helped me because I ended up winning all of my events at meets that I thought I couldn't place top 16. Michael is a hero not just to me but to my sister and most swimmers because he can give that little thing that I can't say in words that makes you want to jump outside and go to a pool and swim as hard as you can so that you can be as good as you can be.

On August 16 he was beaten by the Australian winner Ian Thorpe and the Dutchman Peter van den Hoogenband in 200 m freestyle. Michael Phelps is also my hero because he has made a mission to grow the popularity of the sport by making www.swimroom.com, which allows swimmers to talk all over the world. Michael Phelps is also a hero because he came out with a book called, "Michael Phelps under the Surface" It's about how he won numerous medals at Athens and how he’s training for Beijing. The book also has inspired a lot of people and informed people about Michael Phelps and what he has accomplished. Michael Phelps is also a hero because he has been awarded "World Swimmer of the Year" in 2003-2004 and 2006-2007.

Michael Phelps is a hero to others near and far because he can inspire millions of people every day because of what he does. Michael inspires people that if they want to do something that takes heart and dedication that it can be done just like winning the Olympics with six gold medals as he has. Phelps also helps people understand that if you have a dream then you should try to pursue it in every way possible.
