Another piece from Picasso's Blue Period, Mother and Child by a Fountain (c. 1901) celebrates motherhood and the bond between mother and child. This piece might also be an homage to 15th century master, Johannes Van Eyck and his painting, Madonna and Child at the Fountain, one of the first medieval paintings to portray the tenderness in a mother's embrace.
