Molly controlling the cannon |
The name of my hero is Molly Pitcher. She was born in Pennsylvania. She lived from 0ct. 13, 1754 and died Jan. 22, 1832. I chose Molly as my hero because she was brave and I thought what she did was exciting.
Molly was born to a German family. When she was thirteen, she worked as a maid. During that same year, she married William Hayes, a barber. He became a gunner in the Revolutionary War. Molly attended the soldiers by bringing them water during battles. This is how she became known as Molly “Pitcher.” She also cared for wounded soldiers.
Molly was a loyal wife. She was also kind, gentle, and hard working. She was also very courageous.
The reason Molly is important to history is because she took her husband’s place at the cannon after he was shot. This earned her respect and even George Washington named her “Sergeant Molly.”
Molly’s biggest obstacle was surviving her husband’s death. It was probably very hard for her because she had nobody to help her.
