Raymond Domenech

My hero is Raymond Domenech: he is the current French soccer team coach. He was the one who led the French team to the final of the World Cup 2006. Despite the fact that the players didn’t play great matches before the competition then at the beginning of it, he always trusted in the team he built. In fact, when he announced that France would go to the final, no one wanted to believe him. But he did it! Today he is at the head of one of the best national football teams. His famous habit that everyone appreciates is that with each selection, he always incorporates a player whose nomination no one expected.

Nevertheless Mr Raymond Domenech is not only a great coach but a great speaker too: he always finds the true words to focus attention on him. He always uses humor in his speeches and he particularly handles irony skillfully even if he can't help in the of abuse it. He says what he thinks and doesn’t try to hide himself. His remarks often make big noise and provoke polemics: it is a way to gain attention for him and his team. In my eyes it is what makes the charm of the character and what makes him so sympathetic, although he seems so antipathetic to most people.

Today was the first April and he made a joke (according to the French tradition ): he declared seriously to French media that France’s team had decided to not go to the European cup!
