The Definition of a Hero
A hero is someone who is willing to risk themselves to save or protect something or someone that is important to them. Just like I would risk harm to myself for my family.

My Opinion of having a Hero I think that it is important to have a hero because if you base your life on how they live their life you can change your life for the better. For example if you base your life on Donald Trump, then you will save money like him and become wealthy and rich.

My Book's Hero
Ralph Kauzlarich is the hero of my book. A hero has to be able to deal with loses. Kauzlarich gets over the loses and through other situations by saying the phrase, "It's all good". He makes sure that he gets each soldier gets their proper burial like Bob. And to be a hero YOU MUST BE ABLE TO LEAVE YOUR FAMILY TO PROTECT THEM AND THE COUNTRY FROM HARM if you are a soldier. (Quotes at top of page.)

Hero Hall of Fame
I would induct my hero into the Hero hall of Fame because, first of all, he spends his time protecting our country. If all the soldiers decided to stop protecting the U.S., then we would not be a free country, we would be ran by another country under their rules. Secondly, he helps the people in need. When he was in Iraq on patrol, a mother ran up to Kauzlarich's convoy of Humvees holding her injured child looking for help. Instead of doing what other convoys would have done, Kauzlarich took the child to a hospital to get help. That is why Ralph Kauzlarich should be inducted into the Hero Hall of Fame.

Author Info

My name is Darius Evans and I am a Freshman at Pickerington Central High School. This page is on the Freedom Hero, Ralph Kauzlarich. I am reading about him in my non-fiction book called "The Good Soldiers." This story takes place in the war in Iraq. Kauzlarich and his men are deported from Kentucky to Baghdad as a battalion, which is a large body of troops ready for battle. This was part of George W.'s surge to win the war. Kauzlarich and his men face IEP's, buried roadside bombs, and many more life threatening obstacles on a daily basis while trying to restore peace to Baghdad.
