My hero is Robert E. Lee. He was a general in the Confederate Army. He is known for his time that he led the Confederate States of America in to the Civil War. He may have led the C.S.A in to the battle that was over the fact of slavery. HE NEVER OWNED A SLAVE.

I would like to share with you why he is my hero. He was one of the many leaders of the Civil War time period. He was a very good leader but in the first year it is told that Robert E. Lee was going to lose the war. One afternoon the general was marching with his men when he walked up on a large number of Union solders. His men said that they would stay and fight if he told them to but Lee needed to fall back to stay and protect the capital city Richmond, Virginia. The General knew that he was not going to win the war on a defense point of view. He knew that he needed to hit their home like they are to them. So he led an attack on the North’s homeland hoping that he would win.

When he was almost to Washington he found himself in one of the strongholds of the Union Army. He tried to stay and put up a good fight but there were too many men looking at him at him on the opposed side of the field. His men told him they would stay and fight as long as they needed to. So that’s what they did. This battle would be known as Gettysburg. Lee tried to stay and fight but the Union just had too many men. But he would still have the will to fight for a long time. But in this time period until the Confederacy was celebrated, many many more people would die. In total about 620,000 people died.

He is my hero because he stood up for what he believed in. That was that he was going to keep his loyalty to his state of Virginia that ended up succeeding. The state asked him to be the general of their army which he led. When the president started to raise an army, against his own country, everyone was willing to fight. At the top of the list would have been Lee. He did not think that that was they way to stop the rebellion. So Lee was my hero because helped to do his part in the war to stand up for what he believed in and that was what his state believed in.
