Reba McEntire was born on March 28, 1955. She was born in Chockie, Oklahoma. Her father was a famous calf roper. Her sisters and she would sing together and people called them the "Singing McEntires". One day when she was singing the national anthem at the National Rodeo finals in 1974,a man named "Red Steagall" offered her a recording session in Nashville. That recording session led her to signing with Mercury Records, which was in 1975. One year later she married a man named "Charlie Battles". In 1987, they divorced each other.
On May 8, 1976, she made her debut on country for her single "I Don't Want to be a One-Night Stand". That song did not go very far in her career. She never did make top 10 until 1980 when she recorded "You Lift Me Up, Up to Heaven". It reached number eight, on the top ten. Two of her singles from Mercury Records reached number 1, which were "Can't Even Get the Blues" and "You're the First Time I've Thought about Leaving".
