My hero is Rigoberta Menchu . She was born January 9 1959 in Chimal, Guatemala. She and her family were peasants. She was one of nine children. She attended a Catholic boarding school. She worked on farms to help support her family

She was the first person in Guatemala to win a Nobel Peace Prize. She is still alive. She fights for human rights. She also received the Prince of Asturias Award in 1998. She is 57 years old. She was the first indigenous person to win a Nobel Peace Prize and the youngest.
