A hero is someone who stands up for their rights. They also care about others and not just themselves. Rosa Parks was a hero for many reasons. She was not afraid to stand up for her rights. She had an important role in the Civil Rights Movement.
Rosa Parks was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on February 4, 1913. She had a little brother named Sylvester. Her dad left her when she was a baby and only saw her couple times. Her mom's name was Leona McCauley and her dad's name was James McCauley. She lived with her grandparents, she was poor. Her grandparents owned a small farm in Pine Level.
Rosa Parks is a hero for many reasons. She is known for her role in the Civil Rights Movement. She was riding a city bus on her way home from work and the bus driver asked her to give her seat up to a white person and she refused. After that all African Americans stopped riding the buses, they called that "The Bus Boycott". They walked to work no matter how far it was, for some it was more than fifteen blocks.
In her later life Rosa Parks continued to make a difference, she opened the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute For Self Development in 1987. She worked with Eleanor Roosevelt at a Civil Rights rally in New York City. In 1992 she wrote a book about her life called "My Story".
Rosa Parks is and will always be remembered for her courage. She passed away in 2005 at the age of ninety two. She worked very hard to end segregation, thanks to her now blacks and whites can live together equally.
