Rosa Parks was a woman who was brave and stood up for her beliefs. She was born on February 4, 1913 and died October 24, 2005. Rosa attended Highlander Folk High School, and then she attended Alabama State Teachers College for Negroes. She had the nicknames of "the first lady of the civil rights" and "the mother of the freedom movement". Rosa is most known for the Montgomery Bus Boycott, being part of the African-American Civil Rights Movement, and giving hope to colored people all across America.

December 1, 1955 is the day that made Rosa Parks known by many people world wide. This day was the day of the Montgomery Bus Boycott when Rosa refused to give a white person her seat. She was riding the bus one day, sitting in the colored section. All the seats marked for the white people were taken so the bus driver moved the colored seats back one row. Rosa refused to give the white male her seat and later got arrested, she was fined $14. She then was released later that night on bail. Rosa said, "When the white driver stepped back towards us, when he waved his hand and ordered us up and out of our seats, I felt a determination cover my body like a quilt on a winter night". This made the colored people very angry and this added to the movement of African-American Civil Rights.

The African-American Civil Rights Movement was already in progress before the Montgomery Bus Boycott. When the colored people heard about what happened to Rosa on the bus, they stopped riding the buses. Rosa was a main part of the African-American Civil Rights Movement. When she was giving a speech to a group of people who supported African-American Civil Rights she said, "At the time I was arrested I had no idea that would turn into this. It was just a day like any other day. The only thing that made it significant was the masses of people who joined in".

Rosa Parks made a decision to be daring and brave to make a statement and stand up for her civil rights. She didn't know what her actions would cause but knew in her heart she was doing the right thing. In review she realized that her actions not only made a difference to her but actually made a difference to the whole African-American civil rights movement. Rosa spent the rest of her life working on civil rights for the African-American people and working towards their freedom of everyday rights. Rosa was also known for her statement, "I would like to be remembered as a person who wanted to be free.. so other people would also be free".

Rosa was seen as a hero in many ways and by many people. If Rosa never stood up for what she believed we may never have got equal rights for African Americans. Not only do just African Americans look up to her but she is a role model and a hero to everybody.
