Rosa L. Parks

by Marisa from Spokane

"I would like to be known as a person who is concerned about freedom and equality and justice and prosperity for all people" -Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks is a hero because she was the first African American to stand up for her rights to ride in the front of the bus. She made it so all African Americans could ride in the front of the bus in the South.

One day, she had a lot of confidence and she walked outside, got on the bus, put her money in the slot, and sat in the front of the bus.

Then,a white man got on the bus,and wanted her spot. The bus driver told her she had to give it up,but she didn't,so she had to go to jail.

Once she got out of jail, she started a boycott against the Montgomery Bus Company. The boycott worked, and they changed the rules of the bus.

The new rules said: African American and white people were allowed to sit wherever they wanted. The bus driver had to treat all people the same. And all people were now allowed to apply for driver positions.

The End.
