Heros don't have to have super strength or ability to fly. My hero does not have any super powers however, Major General Richard Rohmer is truly a hero in many ways. Major General Richard Rohmer fought in WWII (World War 2).

As a fighter pilot in World War 2 Major General Richard Rohmer flew a P-51A Mustang. Richard was a Major General in case you haven't guessed. The General is decorated extensively. He was born in Hamilton, Ontario but he grew up in Fort Erie. Richard joined the war when he was 18, gaining notoriety by spotting Rommel from his plane and by participating in taking him out of the war on July 17, 1944. After the war, he studied law. He has a wife named Mary-O. The General has two daughters named Ann and Catherine. Ann is a news reporter and Catherine is a lawyer. He is a licensed and current pilot. Richard Rohmer is a Canadian best selling novelist of fiction and non-fiction books.

Major General Richard Rohmer has been honoured with; Officer of the Order of Canada (1990), Commander of the Order of Military Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross (UK), Order of Ontario (1997), Knight of the Order of St. John, Canadian Forces Decoration. He also has; Queen's Counsel (1960), Officer of the Order of Leopold, Chevalier of the Legion of Honour, Jubilee Medal, Centennial Medal, Confederation Medal, Golden Jubilee Medal and Second World War Medals. For someone to receive one of those medals is great but to get all of them is incredible. The General even had the honour to escort the Queen to Juno Beach, Normandy for the 60th anniversary of D-Day.

One of the many things he does for our safety.

He is my hero because he has so many honours and he is a veteran. I know him personally and he has a great sense of humor. He's my hero because he does so many things for our safety other than the fact he fought in the war. Richard is Honorary Chief Superintendent of the Ontario Provincial Police, Honorary Chief of Toronto Emergency Medical Services. He is also the Patron Toronto St. John Ambulance, Honorary Fire Chief of Collingwood, Honorary Detective the Toronto Police Service and Honorary Commanding Officer of 707 Major-General Richard Rohmer Air Cadet Squadron of Etobicoke, Toronto. That is amazing.

In conclusion to my hero project, I'd like to say it takes serious bravery to fight in any war, especially World War Two and my hero did and survived. That's phenomenal. He is in his early 80s and he is still making the country a better place.
