Rafael Guizar Valencia was born on April 26, 1878 in Cotija, Michoacán (Mexico). He died on June 6, 1938 in Mexico City.
During the battles of the Mexican Revolution, Rafael Guízar acted, often hidden and disguised as a seller, as a helping priest to dying soldiers by giving them spiritual assistance from the Church.
He was the 5th bishop of Veracruz, named by Pope Benedict XV, and on the 30th of November of the same year he received in Havana, Cuba, the Episcopal consecration. He was dedicated to the church, and to helping the lives of those in need.

He conducted several missions in almost every parish in his territory and fought for his seminar, which remained open, even against the persecuting acts.

Many would say that this man was very important to the lives of most families in Veracruz, Mexico, for he was one of the chief priests of the Catholic Church in the state of Veracruz.
He took part in several orders and gave faith to most of the people. He was also one of the first Mexican priests to be canonized in the Vatican.
