Richard Winters

Major Richard Winters is well known for his role in World War II. In his life he has accomplished a lot and demonstrated why he is a true American. I have researched Richard Winters I even read his book The Biggest Brother. The Biggest brother is based on the story of Major Winters and his experience in the war. Richard Winters is my hero because he was a great military leader in World War 2, he is brave, and he puts others' well-being before his own.

Richard Winters is and was a great leader. He showed his leadership in one of the world’s darkest times. He led Easy Company into the heart of enemy territory on many occasions. Throughout his experience in the war he was moved up in leadership due to his great dedication and military intelligence. Later in his life he started his own horse feed company in Hershey, Pennsylvania. So he is an all around great leader.

Major Winters is one of the bravest men I have read about in my life, except for those in epic tales. He was a man of great courage and bravery in all of his battles outside of this country. He was a man that was not easy to shake. He held firm throughout all the pain of war. This brought him to great success in the military. There is a movie series just based on his companies experience in the war. He showed his great bravery when he jumped from a plane into a very hostile environment. There was heavy gun fire throughout the sky where the U.S military was flying.

Being a leader in the war, Winters had to be able to put other men’s well being in front of his. He had to make many crucial decisions that either meant life or death for him and his men. He has taken many falls so that his men would be safe from death. Even though he had to make these tough decisions, he still led his men to victory. Richard Winters led his men in the battle of Bastogne. In Bastogne it was deep into the winter and his men had very little supplies. His men sat freezing and he risked his own life to keep his men alive and well. He fought hard to get his men supplies and he finally got through and saved his men.

Richard Winters was a great man and deserves everyone’s respect for his accomplishments. For all of his service and dedication he is named my hero. From D-Day to the Battle of the Bulge, he led his men and his country to victory against the Germans. Major Richard Winters showed great leadership, bravery, and put others well-being in front of his own to be a hero to many Americans.
