Clemente won twelve gold gloves within 18 seasons. Clemente also won the national league most valuable player award in 1966. Clemente's stellar performance let more hispanic players come into the game for the sport they play the most. Now let's talk about his childhood life.

Clemente was born in 1934 in Carolina, Puerto Rico, the yongest of seven kids, six of those kids were boys. Roberto's dad, Melchor worked as a foreman in a sugar plantation and worked long hours out in the fields only to receive a dollar a day. Roberto also worked in the same fields. He also loaded and unloaded trucks.

Clemente started playing baseball with his friends at an early age and kept playing though high school, where he continued to play baseball and starred in track. He was such a skilled javelin thrower, people thought he was going to be on Puerto Rico's 1952 Olympic team.
