Ralph Dale Earnhardt, Sr.

by Keith from Clarksville

A hero to me is someone who sets a goal and surpasses it, and also does good. He does not have to be like a super hero or be able to breathe under water. He could be anyone from an everyday person to a nobody. My hero started off as a nobody.

My hero would have to be the one, the only, Dale Earnhardt Sr. (Or Dale Ralph Earnhardt). I have many reasons why he is this to me. He may not seem great, but he was amazing to many for what not many know about. He was a NASCAR diver. He was not a normal, everyday, average driver. He was amazing and scared every other driver, earning himself the name “The Intimidator”.

Earnhardt was born in a small town and didn't even finish high school. He had a reason, to take up stock car racing and someone took him in because they thought they saw a good driver in him. After his first race he got to go to an automotive high school because they basically loved his talent. And that is where he took off. He set his goal to become a great NASCAR driver and shoot to the top, which he did. He was a champ from race one to his last. He was not an ordinary driver. When he raced he struck fear into everyone as he drove his way to first. He also had a good bit of humor and was caring to his fans. He even let his fans come see him, unlike many other drivers, making him special to me.

Dale died at Daytona motor speedway when he wrecked and died tragically. He will long be remembered by many people, including me. He was a true hero to me and he still is. He is my hero for the amazing things he could do, like he said he could see the wind go around his car and others' or how driving just came to him.
