A hero is someone that you idolize, someone that you look up to, a role model. A hero can be anybody, a famous person, friends or family. To become a hero, you need to do something extraordinary. Heroes set examples for others, they accomplish good deeds. The person that I chose to be my role model, my hero, is Rachel Joy Scott. Rachel an astonishing young woman who cared for others, was kind to everyone she knew, and was a well-rounded human being. Though her life was taken away from her at such a young age, Rachel continues to be an inspiration to people all over the continent.

Rachel Scott went to Columbine High School in Colorado. She lived with several brothers and sisters, one of which included Craig Scott, her younger brother who attended Columbine High School at the time of the massacre. Rachel and her family lived near Littleton, Colorado. At the time of her death, the 17-year-old junior was an aspiring writer and actress and played the lead in a student-written play. Rachel also left behind 6 diaries and several essays about her belief in God and how she wanted to change the world with small acts of kindness. Rachel was just a well-rounded person with a goal to make the world a better place.

Rachel Scott has accomplished so much during her short time here on Earth. Even though she may not have realized it, her small acts of kindness reached millions of people’s hearts. Rachel literally inspired millions of people to continue the chain reaction she started.

Rachel lived in Littleton, Colorado where she attended Columbine High School along with her younger brother Craig. While at Columbine, Rachel was so courageous that she stood up for what was right. She stood up for the students that got put down, she sat next to the kid at lunch who was sitting by himself, and Rachel was constantly reaching out to others with small acts of kindness. When Rachel was encountered by the shooters, she was on the lawn in front of the school’s cafeteria. Before Rachel died, you could find her actively participating in her youth group or just being an all-around nice person.

Rachel was born on August 5, 1981. Her mother is Beth Nimmo and her father is Derrell Scott. Rachel grew up in Littleton, Colorado. When Rachel was about 12 years old, something overcame her, and it changed the path of her life forever. On March 5, 1993, Rachel was at her aunt and uncle’s church. It was then when she said yes to God. It was then when Rachel turned toward the right path that led a road of spiritual Christian life. Unfortunately, Rachel Joy Scott was killed on April 20, 1999 during the Columbine massacre.

Rachel is such an important person in my life. She reminds me to stay on the right track and to not drift away from what is important. She lets me know that every move I make now will affect my future. Rachel has had a lasting impact on me. Her story was so emotional, and it made me realize that life can end anytime. Rachel has taught me that life is short, so I should live every bit of it with kindness in my heart and an open mind toward others.

Rachel Scott has definitely made a difference in my life. Rachel has changed the way I look at my life. I don’t just wake up in the morning and be miserable. Now, I wake up with a smile on my face knowing that every day counts. Every day of my life counts, because my life could end in an instant. Rachel Scott has also started a chain reaction, which is so noble and so brave that she should get an award. The “chain reaction” Rachel created is what makes her so well-known. She has not only made a lasting impression on me, but on millions of people. This chain reaction is a never-ending act of kindness. Just by doing that, Rachel has touched me and motivated me, to this day, to continue her plan of a chain reaction of kindness.
