Gabrielle Reece

by Alyssa from Buffalo, New York

Gabrielle Reece is a heroine because when people watched her play volleyball they stopped what they were doing and watched Gabby. Another thing that makes her a heroine is that she always keeps her head up and has a good attitude. Another thing that made her a heroine is that she was always very strong and powerful on the volleyball court. Something that she always did even if her team was losing badly, she played her heart out until the game was over. An example of this was at her high school in the championship her team got killed but Gabby just kept trying and never gave up. That is called perseverance.

Gabby Reece was born in La Jolla, California on January 6, 1970. Gabby loved animals and had two dogs growing up with the names of Lady and Fleiss and she played all day. When she started to go to High School, the coaches for basketball and volleyball encouraged her to play those two sports because of her height. When Gabbys' mother went on vacation, she didn’t take Gabby with her. A little while after her mother had left, Gabby started getting in trouble so Terry came home and moved Gabby to a private school. When she got to her new home and private school, Gabby did not keep on misbehaving. She started to focus on her schoolwork, volleyball and basketball but she liked volleyball the best out of all of them. That was Gabby Reece’s early life.

Gabby Reece had to go through a lot to get to where she is now. When she was very young her parents were divorced. Gabby and her mom were always moving and just when she started to get used to the place, it seemed they had to move again. When she played volleyball in high school she was very good and she got a lot of credit and her teammates got jealous and told her that she was not as good as people told her she was. Gabby tried to keep her head up when they said these things to her. When they said these things to her she just kept on saying, "We all have the same amount of talent and love for the game." These are some challenges that Gabby faced during her volleyball career.

What Gabby did for the game of volleyball is that when Gabby went to tournaments and competitions the second Gabby stepped on the court, all of the people and fans would stop what they were doing and watch Gabby because she was so good and so fun to watch. Whenever Gabby did anything, she tried as hard as she could. That is what Gabby Reece did for the game of volleyball.

Some awards that Gabby received are that she was awarded was in a magazine they said that she was one of the top 50 prettiest people in the world. Gabby was also on the All-Metro team through the years of 1989, 1990. She holds the Florida State record for solo blocks in a season. Gabby was the pro beach volleyball kill leader in the years of 1994, 1995, and 1996. Gabby was voted the best offensive player of the year. Those are some awards that Gabby Reece has won during her years of playing volleyball

Three things that Gabby really shows are that she is determined. I think that Gabby is determined because when she is on the court she plays as hard as she can if her team is winning fifty to nothing or if her team is losing fifty to nothing. For example, one time in a championship game Gabby’s team was getting killed badly. Even though they were getting killed, Gabby still played as hard as she could and always kept her head up. Gabby is very humble because she never brags or talks about how good she is. For example, when Gabby was in high school and played volleyball her teammates were very jealous of her because people were always telling her how good she was. Gabby knew that she was good but she always told people that all of her teammates were just as good as she was. One last thing that is good about Gabby is that she is unselfish. I think that Gabby is unselfish because when her teammates were being mean to her and saying that she was not good and did not deserve all of that credit but Gabby would always say that they were all good and had the same amount of talent and love for the game.

As you can see, Gabrielle Reece is an amazing role model, and volleyball player. All of these qualities are what make Gabby Reece a heroine.
