My Grandmother and I |
Is a hero someone big, someone strong or someone wealthy? No, that's not a hero to me. To me a hero is someone who is brave, selfless, respectful, responsible. A hero can also be a risk taker and an ordinary person. Someone who fits all of these characteristics is my grandmother, Regina Weisz.
My heroine is my grandmother, Regina Weisz. She was born August 27, 1911 in Orman, Romania, but now my grandma lives in Montreal. I think that my grandmother is a heroine because during the holocaust she worked at Auschwitz bringing water to the bleachers for people. When she would do this she would hide a chunk of butter in the water for her family and friends who didn’t have a job and had nothing to eat. Then when the holocaust was over she snuck out of Romania as a widow with two younger children. Once in Montreal my grandmother had to work two jobs just to earn money for food, shelter and clothes. Now forty-five years later, she developed a poor circulation problem in her leg and had to be hospitalized. After being hospitalized for two months, sadly, she needed to have her leg amputated below the knee. Now she’s being rehabilitated with a prosthesis and can walk a few steps with the help of a walker. In my eyes, my grandma is a heroine because after being in the holocaust, working two hard jobs, raising two children, and being in the hospital for two months, her spirits are still high. My grandmother is my hero because she is so brave and she’s made it through some tough times where some other people wouldn’t have.
My grandma made a difference by not only being a hero to her family, but also to five people whom she saved in the holocaust. My grandmother is important to me because she has made it through so much. My grandma has taught me that before I was born, life was much harder and now we have it easy. She has also taught me the two most important things in life. You should take risks and live life.
