Andy Roddik

by Raul from Buenos Aires, Argentina

Andy Roddick is my hero. He was born in 1983. He is now 24 years old. He is a tennis player. Andy Roddick was always in the top ten ranking. His best top ranking was when he was 19 years old up to 21 years old. After he was ranked number 1, he was hurt in his muscle. After he was hurt he became the number 5 in the rankings. Some time later he became the no. 7 and that is his current ranking. He made two important and heroic things. One was charity and that is why he is so admired by people.

In 2002 Shanghai’s cup was starting. They were sleeping when he felt an ugly smell, so he woke up and went to investigate. The hotel was burning so his act of heroism was that he saved the best 8 players in the world. His noble act was in 2004 when he was playing a tennis match against a Russian player. He was in Match point when the man, who was playing against him, served. The umpire shouted a double-fault but Roddick told him that it was an ace and he conceded the match.

Andy Roddick is very important to me. I play tennis a lot. When I think of him I feel motivated because I am more confident playing tennis. I started admiring him because of my cousin. He is a great fan of Roddick. Every match he plays I’m more nervous than when my father runs horse-races. He has the strongest serve in the world. He lives in the United States. His best surface is cement. He changed my life completely. When I was small I didn’t like tennis and when I started watching him I ended up loving tennis. I think the act of saving people in the hotel was an act of real hero and courage. Not everyone would save other people because the hotel was on fire.

I think a hero is what Andy Roddick is, to have empathy, not to think only about yourself but to respect people like he does.
