Alejandro & Eva Rodriguez

by Maria from Denver

My heroes are my Dad and Mom.

They are my heroes because they sacrificed a lot of things in life. My Mom started working at a young age and was raised in a poor family. They never really had much in life. The only valuable thing they had was their family. They would always be together in the good and bad times. She worked to help her parents. She knew she had to help her parents take care of her younger siblings.

My Dad was also raised in a poor family. He started working at a young age. He dropped out of school at a very young age. He had to work at a young age because his family really needed the money. He had a big family, with big dreams.

He came to the United States to look for the “The Good Life," but coming here only separated him from his family that he loved with all his heart

In Mexico, it wasn’t rare when a child dropped out of school. Children dropped out of school when they were in 6th, 7th, 8th grade, or even at a younger grade level. This is a very sad situation.

My parents came from Mexico 15 years ago. Since then, they haven’t seen their family members. It’s really hard for them to be separated from their family. They always tell my siblings and me to always be together in life. When someone needs help with something, help them out. Basically what they are asking us to do is to make them proud.

I admire my Mom and Dad for working hard so that my siblings and I can get the necessary things. My parents always want the best for us. They put food on our table, dress us, and put a roof over our heads. Without them, we wouldn’t have all the things we have now. I thank them for everything they have done for us. I appreciate everything they do and have done.
