Theodore Roosevelt

by Jonathan from Arcadia

My hero is Theodore Roosevelt. He was born on October 27, 1858 and died on January 6, 1919. He was 60 years old when he died. Theodore was born in New York, New York and then moved to a farm in the Badlands of the Dakota Territory. Theodore loved nature when he was a kid and when he got older he saved more than 50 million acres of wildlife. When Theodore became President he made laws to protect animals and wildlife.

One reason [why I feel he is a hero] is that Theodore kept his promises to save wildlife. When Theodore said that he would protect animals he did protect all of the animals. Theodore saved a lot of animals that were almost extinct. He even saved a grizzly bear. Theodore saved so many bears that he got the nickname “Teddy Roosevelt”. He had a stuffed toy bear and it didn’t have a name until someone thought of the Teddy Bear.

My second reason is that he helped the community by becoming a police commissioner. He took care of the police station and also fired obnoxious policemen. Theodore walked through the cities and made sure nobody was asleep on the job. Later he became a part of a program called “Rough Riders.”
