Mark Spitz

by Liam from USA

Mark Spitz is a famous Olympic swimmer. He often tried to follow this quote. “Swimming isn’t everything, winning is.” Now that he is older he knows that it’s not true. He was born in Modesto California in 1950. Now, he lives in Los Angles, California.

In 1992 at the age of 41, Mark Spitz attempted a come back. He tried to qualify for the Olympic team but failed. The fact that he even tried to qualify at his age inspired me to believe I could do anything that seemed impossible. Since I am a swimmer, Mark Spitz has encouraged me in the sport.

Mark Spitz is a hero because he has helped many young swimmers believe they can accomplish anything. Mark Spitz spoke to my swim team this past summer. His speech made me want to work harder in swimming. I used his words to help me through many meets.

Mark Spitz is important to me because he has encouraged and helped me to get better in what I do. He inspired me to become a person that encourages others. Mark Spitz has made a difference in my life because he taught me to be the best person and swimmer I could be.

When Mark Spitz failed to qualify for the 1992 Olympics, he taught me a great lesson. It’s not so important to win but more important to try my best. Some traits that he possesses are his determination, helpfulness, and kindness. I hope to teach others like Mark Spitz has taught me.
