Sidney Crosby

by Josh from Cornwall

Today I will talk to you about a hero of mine. A hero to me is someone I look up to a person I admire and that I want to be like. This person plays in the NHL. He was the youngest captain to win a Stanley Cup. My hero`s name is Sidney Crosby.

Sidney is born in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada on August 7, 1987. He has one sister Taylor Crosby. His mom Trina Forbes-Crosby and his dad Troy Crosby. One of the things that was hard for him growing up was the other players would try to slash him or try to intentionally hurt him. Also parents from opposing teams would verbally abuse Crosby on and off the ice because of the skill he had and they did not think it was fair. Crosby was the youngest player to score a goal in the world juniors, and the youngest captain to win a Stanley Cup.

One of Sidney`s biggest qualities is leadership. He has this qualities because he is captain for the Pittsburgh Penguins and to have the C on your jersey is because you are a good leader. Another quality that he has is respect because he respects the coaching staff and his teammates. He is also very perseverant because he never gives up and does not let his team down. He is the all in one because he puts the team before himself. Crosby is very giving because he spends time with sick kids and raises money for them.

What my hero has done to earn the hero title is he has not just inspired me but many other kids who play hockey to become a better hockey player and a better teammate. Crosby has overcome hatred from parents, players, concussion, broken jaw. He did not let that get in his way.

To conclude Sydney has accomplished so much like making it to the NHL, participating in two Olympics which brought 2 gold medals back for Canada. Also he scored the game winning goal against USA in overtime in Vancouver to win gold for his country. Sidney was also the youngest captain to win the Stanley Cup. This is why I think he deserves the hero title.
