FIRST ACCIDENT: Sophie first came to the public's attention on 15 December 2003 when she and Molly Wood, both two years old at the time, were badly injured when they were trapped under a burning car which had crashed through a gate at their kinder in Sydney, whilst the children were napping inside of the kinder. 85 % of Sophie's body was burnt, and she lost both feet, one hand and one of her ears. Sophie was released from the hospital on the Monday 21 June 2004.

Second Accident: Sophie was involved in a huge second accident on May 5, 2006. Only 5 years after her first accident. Sophie was crossing the road in her wheelchair with her nanny and her dog, to go to her school. She was struck by a passing car and thrown 18 meters in the air. Sophie suffered a heart attack, a broken jaw, a broken shoulder, bruising to her head, numerous rib fractures and a tear to her left lung. She was sent to Sydney hospital. She left hospital and returned home to continue her recovery on 7 June 2006.

Sophie Delezio is now 15 years old and is recovering greatly. Sophie Delezio and her parents in 2004 founded the Day of Difference Foundation, a charity dedicated to raising funds for research into pediatric burns and related diseases. As a result of Sophie Delezio's accident over $2 million has been raised, along with heightened public awareness for the need for adequate support and services for pediatric burns patients. Some of these funds were raised at the Kids 4 Kids Benefit Concert held on 10 September 2006. Sophie Delezio and her parents go around and speak to schools and people about her ordeal.
