Stephen Hawking

by Logan and Lily from Cincinnati

When the world needs to be smart, some people can step into place. Even in the worst conditions some people choose not to be resentful. Stephen Hawking is an extraordinary example. With one of the smartest brains on Earth, with a specialty of looking past Earth's premises, and yet rolling around in a mechanical wheelchair, that's what people would call a hero.

If you don't know who Stephen Hawking is he is a scientist and is one of the smartest people to ever be on the planet Earth. However, there is one major set back, he has a disease that has no cure. It is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Before he was diagnosed with the terrible disease, "At age 21, while studying cosmology at the University of Cambridge"(Bio). He decided to change is aspirations and started to work much harder in a completely different field.

With his brilliance, Hawking did the world a massive favor. With continuous questioning, Professor Stephen Hawking asks some Big Questions about our universe - How did the universe begin? How did life begin? Are we alone?" (ted). He figured out the theory behind black holes and what they could do. In his mind he thinks that a black hole is a hole to an opposite universe. It is a very interesting topic that changed the perspective of the entire world.

Who is a hero to us? Someone who uses their brains for the greater good, regardless their horrible condition. Stephen Hawking fits this perfectly. He is one of the smartest people alive. He may not have started this way, but he worked up to it. Becoming the first person to develop a theory about black holes and how they work. Stephen doesn't let his condition hold him back, he shines through stereotypes and the typical person. A hugely inspiring hero.
