Steve Irwin

My hero is Steve Irwin. I didn't pick Steve Irwin because he has just sadly and recently passed, but Steve is my hero because of what he did. Steve dedicated himself to helping animals. If there were an animal where it wasn't supposed to be, he caught it and moved it back to its natural habitat. Steve Irwin died doing what he loved doing: studying and helping animals.

Steve was born in February, 1962, to Bob and Lyn Irwin. In 1970, Steve's parents started a reptile park in Beerwah. For Steve's sixth birthday, he got what he had always wanted – a scrub python. Steve was always out catching fish and hunting rodents to feed to his crocodiles and snakes. Bob, Steve's father, taught him everything there was to know about reptiles. At the age of nine, he even taught Steve how to jump in and catch crocodiles in the rivers of North Queensland at night. In 1991, Steve's parents retired, giving the family business to Steve.

Steve got his big break in 1992, and landed his own television show on Discovery channel, known as "The Crocodile Hunter." His wife Terri Irwin co-hosted his wildlife documentaries. Steve was all about helping animals and taking the animals where they belonged. In 1998, Steve and Terri Irwin had there first baby girl, named Bindi.

Steve Irwin died on September 4, 2006. Peoples' hearts dropped all over the world when news spread about Steve's death. Steve Irwin was, and still is, my hero for dedicating himself and his time to helping animals. Steve helped hundreds, maybe even thousands of animals. He helped animals from the desert all the way out to the ocean. Steve made an impact on a lot of peoples' lives, and that's what I think a hero does. A hero is someone who makes a difference in your life, and helps other people or animals.`
