Stephen Robert Irwin

by Harleigh from Sulphur

What is a hero? Who can be a hero? These are the questions most people ask when talking about heroes. When someone thinks of a hero, they always think of Superman, Batman, and all the other comic book heroes. I think of a hero as someone who you look up to and strive to be more like. Heroes should have qualities like perseverance, faith, hope, respect, and friendliness, but they should also be inspiring. I strongly believe that these are the qualities of a true hero.

Steve Irwin is my hero. I chose him because I think he shows all of the traits a good hero should have and then some. Steve was born on February 22, 1962. He is well known as The Crocodile Hunter. The Australia Zoo was his own little sanctuary where he kept most of the animals he rescued. His daughter, Bindi, and his wife, Terri, helped him in caring for and even rescuing these animals. Steve loved to help any animal in need, but he mostly just dealt with reptiles, such as crocodiles and snakes. He had a special way of interacting with animals. Steve captivated many tourists when they went to the Australia Zoo and saw his live performances.

I believe that Steve was a great man. He was always ready to help any animal, and he was very generous. Steve would be very proud of his family for keeping the Australia Zoo just as thriving as it was when he was helping with it. He will always be remembered and truly loved by everyone!
